Adventure Hiker Gaff

Have you ever pushed yourself so hard physically that you can feel your jugular jump out of your neck. That all you can hear is the sound of your heart pumping not in your chest but right there in your ears! Today I hit 186bpm forcing myself to push harder and faster on the way up the slick granite face of the Pyramids in Girraween National Park. A quick 2.5hr drive South West from my home in Raceview had me pulling into the carpark at the Ranger station. Greeted by the friendliest and most helpful ranger I have met to date, I decided on the sights to see and where I was staying for the night. First up was the Northern Loop: The Pyramids (1 and 2) are super popular as they are only 1.8km from the main camp areas. As this story started these are not for the faint of heart. 20 mins from Ipswich city you will find an awesome little area for hiking, camping and catching a sunset. Being the closest place to hike in relation to my house I find myself here ALOT!  With the option of doing the 9+ Km horse track circuit around Rocky Knoll or the shorter route straight to Goolman Lookout both choices will surely get your heart pumping. I have hiked every 'marked' trail in the Flinders Goolman National Park but this post will only cover my last hike.  Parking at the first entrance and information area will be the best option to hike the Horse Track as it is a complete loop.  Heading anti-clockwise following the horse trail markers will lead you first to Rocky Knoll lookout. Be aware this is a rather steep trail! It is very easy to navigate because it has been recently graded and is a well used fire trail. DAY 1 After meeting at port of Brisbane we parked the car and boarded the barge. Going through our gear we discovered Seb didnt bring shoes and packed his gear in the oldest military style pack I have seen for a long time. 75mins on the barge had us arriving at the docking area north of Tangalooma resort on Moreton Island. Looking out over the handrails on the barge you get to soak in the beauty of the island. Moreton island has the largest vegetated sand dunes in the world and several ships that were sunk close to the coastline making perfect artificial reefs for snorkeling.  After the vehicles disembarked we excitedly walked down the gangway and turned left travelling in a northerly direction.
